Professor of Discourse Analysis

About

I work in the broad interdisciplinary field of discourse studies, with a particular focus on the way careful analyses of interaction can provide a way of understanding and reworking basic psychological questions.  This way of thinking about interaction research is called discursive psychology.

I am currently studying child protection helpline interaction as well as family mealtimes with a focus on eating and health.  I am also involved in projects on interaction and autism and on the way directives operate in family settings.  My research typically involves collaboration with other member's of Loughborough's Discourse and Rhetoric Group.

I often write more broadly on theory and method in the social sciences and regularly teach workshops on discourse theory and methods.

Many of my articles are available from my homepage.
