About
My name is Rob Pearce and I am a learning and Web technologist. My expertise lies with all types of web technology, though understanding the difficult joining point between people and technology is a professional preoccupation and one that I will always still be learning about.
I work for the Higher Education Academy Engineering Subject Centre, based at Loughborough University in the UK. The centre works in partnership with the UK engineering community to provide the best possible higher education learning experience for all students. I have strategic responsibility for the centre’s web technology and e-learning initiatives.
My research interests include the application of virtual worlds in education, the semantic web and online and distance education.
Despite my interest in research I am most interested in doing things - that is matching problems to the right solutions and implementing. The trick is to get the balance right between thinking and doing!
Before working in higher education I was an electronics engineer in the telecommunications industry and later a commercial web designer. Between these two roles I was an electronics/computing manager for a research company.
